OSX LionにRosettaをインストールする

This article is "how to install Rosetta to OSX Lion". English follows Japanese.

かつてMacintoshはPowerPCというCPUであったが、ある時からIntelのCPUに変更になり、それまでのアプリはすべて動かなくなった。

Appleはこれに対応するため、RosettaというソフトをOSXに同梱した。

Rosettaは、Intel CPUの上でPower PCアプリが動くようにする、いわゆるエミュレータである。

時は経ち、OSX 10.7 (Lion) がリリースされたとき、Rosettaは無くなった。もうPowerPCアプリはサポートしないという宣言である。

ほぼすべてのアプリはIntel対応済みなので、たいていの場合は問題が起きないが、たまに「対応しません」と言われて起動できないアプリに出くわす。それがとても重要なアプリだった場合は、下記の方法で無理矢理 Rosetta  を入れる。

① OSX 10.6 (Snow Leopard) のインストールディスクを挿入
②「オプションインストール」フォルダの中の Optional Install.mpkg を起動
③ 指示に従って進み、「"xxxx"にカスタムインストール」の画面で「Rosetta」にチェック
④ インストールを続けると、Rosettaがシステムに仕込まれる

A long time ago... Macintosh computers used PowerPC CPU but today it has been changed to Intel CPU which has no capability to run ancient applications.

When Apple affected this change, "Rosetta" which utilize using PowerPC application on Intel Mac came with OSX system. But this Rosetta had not included from OSX 10.7(Lion).

So now a days, you cannot use PowerPC applications on Intel CPU. Gee.. this is Apple.

Otherwise, if you need to use PowerPC applications on Intel, we have one possibility.

1. Find OSX 10.6 install disk (Snow Leopard) and insert it to your Mac.
2. Start "Optional Install.mpkg" in Option install folder.
3. Follow the instruction, at the page of "Custom Install", activate "Rosetta".
4. Continue installation.
